Legend: The name Clary Sage is derived from the Latin word for clear – probably because the herb was once used for clearing mucous from the eyes. During the middle ages it was know as the Eye of Christ and it cleared thoughts, perceptions and the devil. Originally it was grown in southern Germany in vineyards and used as a substitute for hops in brewing beer.
