Legend: Magicians wands from antiquity, arrows of Cupid in Rome and the sceptre of Jupiter were all said to be made from Cypress wood.
The Egyptians and the Greeks used it for sculpting statues of their gods. The Greek word ‘Sempervirens’ means ‘lives forever’ or ‘ever-living’. The tree gave its name to the island of Cypress where it used to be worshipped. The ancient Greeks dedicated the tree to Pluto, god of the underworld, and was said to help the transition from life to death for those passing over.
The legend says the cross of Jesus had been made of Cypress wood.
